Cookies

We do not collect or store data about children. No names. No emails from children. No child’s school. No home address. No child account. The full picture is in our Privacy Policy.

The four cookies we set

hc_license is set only after an adult pays or a teacher signs in to a school seat. It is signed and secure, and page scripts cannot read it. It holds the plan, Stripe customer and subscription IDs, the renewal date, and for a teacher the seat ID, and lasts until about 60 days after the paid period ends.

hc_free counts the three free custom explains. It holds a number and nothing else, and lasts one year.

hc_edu counts free educator briefs for today. It holds a date and a number and nothing else. It lasts two days.

hc_school_admin is set only when a school admin opens a sign-in link. It is signed and secure, keeps the admin signed in to manage seats, and lasts 12 hours.

What stays on your device

Reading age, the state you want to know about, language, topic pins, and saved stories stay in this browser’s local storage so the desk remembers your setup. We do not get a copy. After a school checkout, session storage keeps a one-time mark so the welcome page records the purchase once. It clears when the tab closes.

Tracking

This website has no advertising tracker and no analytics pixel. We count how often tools are used, in total only, in Cloudflare Analytics Engine. Each count holds the event name and a few fixed labels, such as the plan or reading age. No cookie ID, no IP address, no browser details, and nothing you paste. Text you paste into the educator brief is sent to xAI to make your result. Hopeful Child does not store it. The site loads no third-party scripts, and our fonts are served from our own site. Every cookie here is necessary and none is optional, so a Global Privacy Control signal has nothing extra to turn off. We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context advertising.

Payments

Adult checkout and the billing page run on Stripe. Stripe sets its own cookies on its own sites and has its own privacy policy. We never see or store a full card number.

EU and UK visitors

The cookies above are strictly necessary. If we later add cookies that are not, we will ask first.
